A constraint satisfaction model for recognition of stop consonant-vowel (SCV) utterances

چکیده
In this paper, we propose a model for recognition of utterances of consonant–vowel (CV) units. The acoustic–phonetic knowledge of the CV classes is incorporated in the form of constraints of a constraint satisfaction model. The model combines evidence from multiple classifiers. The significant feature of this model is that discrimination of the CV units could be enhanced by a combination of even weak evidence derived from the features. The evidence is obtained from multilayer feedforward neural networks trained for subgroups of CV classes. The evidence is enhanced using a set of feedback subnetworks in the constraint satisfaction model. The weights for the connections in the feedback subnetworks are derived using acoustic-phonetic knowledge and the performance statistics of the trained networks. The performance of the proposed model is demonstrated for recognition of utterances of a large number (80) of stop consonant-vowel units for the Indian language Hindi.

Constraint satisfaction model for enhancement of evidence in recognition of consonant-vowel utterances
isfaction neural network (CSNN) model developed for In this paper, we address the issues in recognition of a large number of subword units of speech with high confusability among several units. Evidence available from the classification models trained with a limited number of training examples may not be strong to correctly recognize the subword units. We present a constraint satisfaction neura...

متن کاملEstimation of Place of Articulation During Stop Closures of Vowel-Consonant-Vowel Utterances
Production of vowel–oral stop consonant–vowel utterances involves movement of articulators from the articulatory position of the initial vowel towards that of the oral stop closure, and then to that of the final vowel. As the closure segments have zero or low signal energy, linear predictive coding (LPC)-based estimation of vocal tract shape fails during stop closure. This paper reports a techn...

In this study, recognition rates of consonants available in vowel-consonant-vowel structure in hearing tests and two microscopic models will be investigated. Such a syllable structure doesn’t exist in Farsi and Azerbaijani languages, but since the goal is only recognition of middle phoneme, according to hearing tests, listeners are able to properly recognize phonemes in clean speech conditions....
متن کاملRelation of vocal tract shape, formant transitions, and stop consonant identification.
PURPOSE The present study was designed to investigate the relation of formant transitions to place-of-articulation for stop consonants. A speech production model was used to generate simulated utterances containing voiced stop consonants, and a perceptual experiment was performed to test their identification by listeners. METHOD Based on a model of the vocal tract shape, a theoretical basis f...
